|
Starting pitcher Alfredo Ruíz pitched well enough to help the San Bernardino Grasshoppers beat the Billings Polar Bears by the score of 6-4. In 6 innings, Ruíz surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 5. He allowed 3 runs. Héctor Valentín earned his 7th save in 8 tries.
The Grasshoppers beat the Polar Bears in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the home run Shawn Hicks produced in the top of the fifth. Batting against Billings pitcher Olivier Carlier, he gave his team a 5-3 lead when he hit a 2-run home run.
"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Ruíz, cracking a smile.
The Grasshoppers go to 13-15, putting them 8th in the Menard's AA.
