The Tortolita Drummers eeked out a 5-4 win versus the Vermont Lake Monsters at Drummers Ballpark. Nobody did more than catcher Jim Burch, who captured player of the game honors. Tortolita reliever Pedro Figueroa picked up the win, upping his record to 6-4. Jon Shirley shouldered the loss. Francis Cahill, credited with the save, is now 13 for 16 in save opportunities.

The Drummers beat the Lake Monsters in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the single Miguel Canales produced in the bottom of the fifth. Batting against Vermont pitcher Jon Shirley, he gave his team a 4-3 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Vermont manager Jack Barnes.

Tortolita is now 49-53, Vermont 52-50.
