Victory Over Halberds Takes Calgary to 46-30
|
The Calgary Lynx beat the Alloway Halberds, 8-4, at Ballpark of Alloway. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Herman Hayes, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Alfonso Vera closed the door for Calgary, picking up his 5th save of the year. The Lynx saw their record improve to 46-30.
Hayes came through with some timely hitting for Calgary. With the score 3-1 in the top of the fifth and one down, Hayes hit a 1-2 changeup for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season -- and a big reason the Lynx managed to win.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Hayes told the Calgary Observer. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
