Cooper 4-4 as Disaster Squeeze Past Pennsauken
|
The Port Royal Disaster beat the Pennsauken Flyers, 5-3, at Pennsauken Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Brandon Cooper, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Port Royal reliever Cipriano Costa picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Martin Ortíz took the loss. The Disaster improved to 15-22.
Cooper had a game-changing double in the top of the eighth. On a 1-2 fastball from Martin Ortíz, he banged a 2-run double to left, giving the Disaster a 5-3 lead. It was the 10th double of the year for Cooper.
Cooper attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
