Hopper Clips Nationals for Cycle
Wednesday, May 12th, 2027
"How sweet it is, when the good part of the bat makes contact with the baseball." That's how Dewitt Hopper, the Myrtle Beach left fielder, described what happened in today's 17-1 victory over the Ottawa Nationals -- hitting for the cycle. In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that exact order is known as a "natural cycle," something that almost never occurs.

"I heard that sound every time I hit the ball -- it really was a special game for me." It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Ottawa pitching for 4 hits in 4 at-bats and his name will now go into the record book. Hopper also racked up 3 RBI and 1 run scored in the game.

Dewitt Hopper walked in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Francisco Jiménez in the 5th and tripled in the 6th.

Posting a .409 batting average to date, Hopper has 4 home runs and 17 RBIs.
