Victory Over Grey Wolves Takes Northern Virginia to 58-34
|
Northern Virginia starter Arnie Pittman pitched effectively against the Vancouver Grey Wolves at Wolf Den in Vancouver. The left-hander led his team to a 3-1 win. Ilie Paunescu recorded the save for Northern Virginia, his 21st of the season. The second-place Rainbow Mermaids have won 4 straight.
Northern Virginia took the lead in the top of the third on a big hit from Arlen Joysey. On a 0-1 curveball from Gerardo Pagán, Joysey hit a run-scoring single. That made it 1-0, Rainbow Mermaids. For the day, Joysey was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Northern Virginia skipper David Lenlister.
