Plainsmen Bump Off Blaze, 3-2
|
The Nebraska Plainsmen did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the South Beach Blaze at Plain Old Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Damien Hayward, who captured player of the game honors. Juan Contreras picked up the save for Nebraska, his 19th of the year. The Plainsmen move to 33-38 with the win, while the Blaze drop to 41-30.
Also producing for Nebraska was shortstop Tony Gutiérrez, who stroked a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, Gutiérrez went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk.
"It feels good to get that win," said Hayward. "Now it's on to the next one."
