In a low-scoring contest between the Niagara Falls Expos and the Mt. Vernon Bulls, pitcher Naozane Kobayashi was at the top of his game. The Niagara Falls right-hander was named the player of the game in Niagara Falls's 2-1 win. The Expos raised their record to 21-24.

A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the third inning when the Expos sent teenager Robert La Caze to the plate against Bulls hurler Martín Salazar. With a runner on 1st and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a first pitch slider to score 1.

"We were in it," said Mt. Vernon manager . "We just didn't score enough runs."
