Hops Saddle Screaming Eagles with 4-3 Loss
|
Yakima Hops starter Jorge Cruz was in fine form against the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles at Hops Park, leading his team to a 4-3 win. Cruz went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. His record improves to 6-7. The 6th-place Screaming Eagles have lost 4 straight games.
The Hops beat the Screaming Eagles in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the single Alfonso Nazario produced in the bottom of the fifth. Batting against Mercer Island pitcher Jules Goux, he gave his team a 4-3 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Cruz. "Successful pitchers do it."
