Screaming Eagles Take Tight Tilt
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles got a strong performance from pitcher Jesús López, who stymied the San Antonio offense en route to a 4-2 win at San Antonio Field. López, now 4-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 11 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Fernando Torrez nailed down his 1st save.
Dimian Menres drew 1 walk for Mercer Island. The 25-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the sixth. That's when he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Michael Taylor. It was his 13th RBI of the season.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Mercer Island skipper Jared Gilbert.
Mercer Island goes to 22-19, San Antonio to 15-26.
