Torres goes 3-for-3 as Farmers Squeeze Past Asheville
|
Lancaster beat Asheville at Asheville Park, eking out a 5-3 win. The win was due in large part to catcher Pedro Torres, who earned player of the game honors. Jon Shirley, credited with the win, is now 1-2. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 3.2 innings. Raúl Nieto finished the game for Lancaster and earned his 3rd save.
Torres had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 1-0 fastball from Tom Hernández, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Farmers a 4-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Torres.
Torres told the Lancaster Today: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
The Highlanders, at 4-13, have stumbled out of the gate.
