The Asheville Highlanders had to overcome a big game from San Antonio third baseman Stefan Vanderhoof to leave San Antonio Field with a 8-2 victory. Vanderhoof went 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Elend Venture picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 2 in 5.2 innings. The Highlanders, with only their 2nd win in 8 games, have not had much to write home about in 2027.

In the top of the 2nd, the Highlanders grabbed the lead when Marcos Calderón rapped a two-out double. Asheville was trailing 1-0, when Calderón hit a 2-run double off Derek Holbrook to put his team in front, 2-1.

"The beers will taste better tonight after this win," said the ever-candid Calderón.
