The Springfield Shooters picked up a win at Thunder Hawks Ballpark, knocking off the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 4-2. Starting pitcher Gabriel Valenzuela played a key role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Valenzuela, now 14-3. He tossed 8 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 5. Ernst Chia closed it out for his 21st save.
Springfield took control in the top of the seventh. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Shahid Afridi hit a run-scoring single to make it 3-2, Shooters.
"I like our moxie," said Springfield Shooters manager Jacob Green.
The first-place Shooters, at 60-39, now lead their division by 2 games.
