The Virginia Beach Deuces got a strong performance from pitcher Miguel López, who stymied the Springfield offense en route to a 4-1 win at Virginia Beach Grounds. López went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 8-4. Jim Unknown got the save, his 1st in 1 chances.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Clarence Weber was at the plate when Virginia Beach scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Deuces to go in front, 2-1.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Springfield skipper Jacob Green, "and it cost us."
After today's action, Virginia Beach sits at 47-44, while Springfield falls to 57-34.
