Multi-HR Day for Barksdale as Dodgers Overpower Evergreens, 3-0
|
The exploits of designated hitter Avon Barksdale, the seven overall pick in the 2023 draft, helped the Brooklyn Dodgers defeat the Portland Evergreens, 3-0. Barksdale hit 2 home runs. Russ Horne picked up the win with 8.1 innings of work. He allowed no earned runs on 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 9-0. Sjaak Bonne, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 17th save.
Barksdale came through with some timely hitting for Brooklyn. With the score 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth and one down, Barksdale hit a first pitch fastball for a solo home run. It was his 18th home run of the season -- and a big reason the Dodgers managed to win.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling pretty confident after that win," said Barksdale.
Brooklyn goes to 43-13. The win puts them 7˝ games up in their division.
