Montés Impressive in Irving Win
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Irving Blue Sox and the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, pitcher Gonzalo Montés was excellent. The Irving right-hander was named the player of the game in Irving's 3-0 win. Picking up the save was Jon Schultz, his 13th. Their 25-38 record puts the Blue Sox 9th in the Silver AA.
It was an impressive outing from the hyper-competitive Montés, who tallied 5 strikeouts in 6.1 innings and allowed only 1 hit. Montés, who leads the SAA with a 1 complete games, raised his record to 6-5 on the year with 72 strikeouts.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Montés told a Irving Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
