The Hammond Herons got a stellar performance from pitcher Alberto Mendoza, who handcuffed the Highwood offense en route to a 5-2 win at Hawks Field. The Herons own a robust 53-38 mark.

Rex Scurlock was a key contributor to the win for the Herons. In the top of the sixth with one out, the light-hitting second baseman stroked a triple to center. He went 1-3 with a triple and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Highwood manager John Muńóz. "But we decided not to take it."
