Highwood turned a good effort from starter Stanley Eldrige into a win over the Connetquot Chiefs at Hawks Field. The final score was 3-2. Eldrige went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. His record improves to 5-3. Sam Schultz nailed down his 4th save.
Reg Spiers, not known for his power, had a big at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth. That's when he connected on a fastball from Juan Rodríguez for a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season put Highwood in front, 3-1.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Spiers said.
Highwood, at 23-13, sits in first place in the Menard's A.
