Romano Martínez never let the Salem Misfits find their groove. Throughout the game, Martínez, who is tied for 2nd in the PAA with a 9.0 K/9 rate, relied on his bread and butter, his change up, in pitching the Highlanders to a win. The last-place Highlanders lifted their record to 32-51.

Also making an impact was right fielder Marcos Calderón, who drilled a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth for Asheville. For the game, Calderón went 1 for 4.

Calderón told local reporters: "We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one. We've got to keep it going."
