Highlanders Edge Lannister United in Pitching Duel
|
The Asheville Highlanders picked up a win at Lionheart Field, knocking off the Lannister United Lionhearts, 1-0. On the mound for Asheville was right-hander Gus Gamble, who played a pivotal role in the win. Gamble, now 3-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing no earned runs. Asheville is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 8th in 20 games.
Miguel Montoya's at-bat in the top of the second was significant, coming with a runner on 3rd and the game tied, 0-0. The Asheville designated hitter hit a run-scoring single off Currito Melena to put the Highlanders up.
"We didn't score," said losing manager Ernesto Reyes. "That was the problem."
