Despite a great performance by Asheville shortstop Héctor Gallegos, the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles defeated the Highlanders by the score of 4-3 at Asheville Park. Gallegos went 4-5 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs. Mercer Island, now 4-0, has played well in the early going.

Leonardo Ramírez's hit in the top of the tenth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from Brandon McAllister for a run-scoring double. It put Mercer Island in front, 4-3.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Ramírez said.
