Lake Monsters Defeat BC, 7-2
|
Benefiting from the performance of Arturo Gonzáles, the Vermont Lake Monsters defeated the Houston BC, 7-2. Gonzáles went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Lake Monsters. Roberto Cantú got the win, improving to 4-1. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 8 and walking 3. Jim Unknown got credit for the save for Vermont. It was his 1st of the year.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, pinch hitter Bronson Nicholls came through big-time for the Lake Monsters. With Vermont leading 3-2, he belted a grand slam home run.
"There's a lot of fight left in this team," said Nicholls.
Vermont now sits in 4th place in the Silver AAA at 39-36.
