Red Pandas Take Tight Tilt
|
Port Royal got a terrific performance from pitcher Juan Guillén, but it wasn't enough to beat the Sioux Falls Red Pandas. Sioux Falls won the The Bamboo Forest contest, 3-1. Guillén was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. Jim Unknown picked up the save for Sioux Falls, his 1st of the year. Sioux Falls is in last place in the Menard's AAA with a record of 17-29.
The Red Pandas beat the Disaster in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the single Juan Rodríguez produced in the bottom of the seventh. Batting against Port Royal pitcher Juan Carlos Herrera, he gave his team a 3-1 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
Rodríguez told the Sioux Falls Times: "This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents. Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
