In a low-scoring contest between the Chicago Tula and the South Beach Blaze, pitcher Francisco Sandoval was at the top of his game. The Chicago right-hander was named the player of the game in Chicago's 3-0 win. Eddie Schmitt earned his 28th save in 31 tries. The first-place Tula now have a win-loss record of 61-29.

Also making an impact was second baseman Dana Waldrip, who drilled a solo home run in the bottom of the third for Chicago. For the game, Waldrip went 1-3 with a home run.

"We didn't score," said losing manager Justin Trewhells. "That was the problem."
