The Syracuse Storm put one in the win column with an opening day 5-3 triumph over the Mt. Vernon Bulls. The crowd at Storm Park watched Bob Browning put on a fine performance, for which he was named player of the game. Browning picked up the win for Syracuse, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Jim Unknown recorded the save for Syracuse, his 1st of the season.
Tyrell Wellick drove in one run for Syracuse. In the bottom of the sixth, with the teams deadlocked, 3-3, Wellick delivered for the Storm. His run-scoring sacrifice fly put Syracuse on top, 4-3.
