Athletic Club KC Fall Short, 3-2, at Northern Virginia
|
Juan Torres pitched a good game, but his team, the Athletic Club KC, still dropped a 3-2 decision to the Northern Virginia Retrievers at Ballpark of Northern Virginia. Northern Virginia reliever Ilie Paunescu was the winner. His record is now 4-2. Juan Torres took the loss. Harold Elkins was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 5 of 6 save opportunities.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with Northern Virginia trailing 2-1, Ju-chan Pak was at the plate when Northern Virginia scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Retrievers to go in front, 3-2.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Athletic Club KC manager Andy Mayfield. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
The Retrievers now have a record of 35-59.
