Misfits Fall Short at Irving
|
The Irving Blue Sox outlasted Gonzalo Ángel and the Salem Misfits, 8-7. Ángel was impressive in the loss. The Salem designated hitter was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Irving is now 38-56, Salem 58-36.
The Blue Sox were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when shortstop Roberto López turned a 1-0 changeup from Elmer García into a 3-run home run. The walk-off home run sent a roar through the crowd and gave Irving a thrilling 8-7 win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Salem manager Bill Clark. "But we decided not to take it."
