Victory Pushes Mermen Record to 36-25
|
The Marquette Miners got a superb performance from pitcher Luis Ortíz. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Myrtle Beach. The Mermen won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Ortíz was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Dan Crowder, credited with the win, is now 5-2. He allowed 3 runs on 10 hits in 7.1 innings. Francisco Gonsáles got the save, the 18th for him this season.
The Mermen got a big at-bat from David Vázquez. For the game, Vázquez was 1 for 3. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 54th hit of the season gave Myrtle Beach a 4-3 lead.
Vázquez told a Myrtle Beach Gazette reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
The Mermen bumped their record to 36-25 with this latest triumph.
