The Vermont Lake Monsters did just enough to sneak past the Brinkley Belugas, 6-2, at Belugas Ballpark. Vermont pitcher Roberto Cantú earned player of the game honors. Cantú, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 1 earned run. The win leaves Vermont with a record of 2-0.
Also producing for Vermont was first baseman Arturo Robles, who stroked a 2-run single in the top of the fifth. For the game, Robles was 2 for 5 with a triple, while adding 2 RBI.
"We were in it," said Brinkley manager Junior Benítez. "We just didn't score enough runs."
