Abe Delivers Clutch At-Bat for Houston in Walk-Off Win
|
The Grafton Middies got a sterling performance from pitcher Domingo Álvarez, but the 1837 BBC still prevailed, 4-3. Álvarez was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He came in in relief and pitched to 19 batters . The 1837 BBC sit in 5th place in the Division II with a record of 50-50.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Kumanosuke Abe came to bat in the bottom of the 16th. Facing Grafton pitcher Truman Valentine, he hit a 2-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Houston on top, 4-3.
"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Abe said.
