On a Roll: Núñez Hits for Cycle Wednesday, September 4th, 2024 Alfonso Núñez produced one of the rarest feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Sioux Falls Red Pandas in the Hialeah 6-3 win at The Bamboo Forest. Afterward, Núñez acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but he was more interested in helping the Dodos just win some ballgames. At the postgame press conference, he said, "Maybe one day I'll look back on this day with more meaning, but right now I just want to come out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball, get a few hits and help my club win another game." On his historic day, he went 4-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored -- and also got a spot in the league record books. Maybe one day way down the road he will get out the record book and reminisce about his extra special day in baseball. Alfonso Núñez hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and walked in the 9th. Looking at his stats this year, Núñez has compiled a .351 batting average, while hitting 1 home run and driving in 14 runs. He has played in 47 games and scored 17 runs. |
