Hamm at His Best, Whips Sixshooters Wednesday, August 19th, 2020 "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Youth manager told reporters after today's game. The Sixshooters ran into a buzzsaw as Wes Hamm cut them down to size 3-0 with a 2-hit shutout. His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one." In the complete game whitewash the Phoenix Hotspur hurler doled out 3 walks and registered 8 strikeouts. In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Wes goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be." Hamm also got some praise from the Westwood manager. "He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings." Thus far this season, Hamm has tossed 149.2 innings in 21 starts, fanned 129 batters, walked 59 and put up a 3.49 ERA with 11 wins and 8 losses. |
