López Clips Thunder Hawks for Cycle Sunday, July 22nd, 2018 You might say Mauro López wore out his welcome with the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks. The center fielder gave them fits in today's 9-5 Mercer Island victory by hitting for the cycle. "To hit for the cycle" is one of the rarest of feats in a baseball game. This occurs when a player hits a single, double, triple, and home run in the same game, getting every type of hit possible. López ended the day with 4 hits in 4 at-bats, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, he said, "After the first three hits, I thought to myself, This could be the game I hit for the cycle. And I got lucky and did it." Mauro López doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run triple in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Grant Woods in the 6th and walked in the 8th. López is hitting .292 this season with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 66 hits in 226 at-bats. |
