Over the Top, Brown Bats .424
Sunday, August 24th, 2014
Coaches tell ballplayers that the best hitters make an out 7 times out of 10. That's 3 base hits per 10 at-bats. To average 4 base hits per 10 at-bats, well, that only happens for the best of the best -- the .400 hitters.
Northern Virginia catcher Don Brown certainly qualifies as one of the best. He hit an astronomical .424 this season.
"He's the best pure hitter I've ever seen," his manager said. "And I've been around some great players."
His numbers this year also included 38 doubles, 2 triples and 49 home runs. The newest member of baseball's .400 Club also scored 120 times and batted in 112 runs.
