Royale with Cheese Continue Skid Thanks to Gómez, Tropics
|
The Maui Tropics beat the Kalamazoo Royale with Cheese, 6-3, at Hawthrone Grill. The win was largely due to the efforts of center fielder Roberto Gómez, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Maui starter Ronald Cotton was credited with the win after throwing 122 pitches over 7.2 innings. His record now stands at 7-14. The Royale with Cheese, now 57-73, have lost 8 straight.
Gómez had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a 2-1 fastball from Octávio Ramírez, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Tropics a 5-2 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Gómez.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Gómez, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
