Cards Slip Past Pocatello, 7-6
|
Pocatello got a terrific performance from first baseman António Ortega, but it wasn't enough to beat the Portland Cards. Portland won the The Kallipolis contest, 7-6. Ortega was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Even with the win, the Cards have a dismal 38-89 record.
Mario Méndez was the walk-off hero for Portland. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cards catcher hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Méndez.
