The Chicago Machine picked up a win at Roy Hobbs Memorial Ballpark, knocking off the New York Knights, 5-4. Starting pitcher Ron Martin, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Chicago is now riding a 3-game win streak.
Thomas Simmons's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With one out, he rapped a fastball from Sancho Mendoza for a 2-run home run. It put Chicago in front, 5-4.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Simmons.
