| Marshals Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Pikes | Houston pitcher José Gonzáles did his part in helping his team beat the Seattle Pikes, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winner was Houston reliever Jim Durham, now 8-5. The loser was David Hill. Vinícius Itaquy notched his 39th save in 46 chances.
Had Esteban Lara not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Lara hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Marshals.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Gonzáles told reporters after the game.
Houston, at 66-81, sits in 4th place in the Continental League Central Division.
