Divisional Round Game 1 Victory for López\n and Springfield

The stakes were high. José López was ready.

The left-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Kekambas Park today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Springfield Stars to victory in Game 1 of the Divisional Round. López held the Kalamazoo Royale with Cheese to 6 hits and no walks, while striking out 10. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for Springfield, which now leads 1-0.

López, a native of Cardenas, Cuba, was dealing all game. He kept Kalamazoo hitters off-balance, while giving the Stars 9 quality innings. López threw 107 pitches, allowing 6 hits and striking out 10.

"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said López. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Salvador Castro for Kalamazoo and Claudio Martínez for Springfield.
