Iowa State Cyclones catcher Dan Stone almost did it all today. He sent three shots out of the ballpark, scored 3 times and drove in 5 runs and had 3 hits in 4 at-bats.

The one thing he could not do, however, was lead the Cyclones to victory. The Alabama Crimson Tide escaped with the 9-8 win by the Alabama despite being on the receiving end of the barrage from Stone.

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't like hitting three homers, but losing takes a little glitter off the game," he admitted to BNN writers after the game.

Dan Stone hit a solo-shot off Hubert Chilcott in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Curt Dunn in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Mark Gibson in the 9th.

"When someone hits three home runs, you put yourself in a tough position to win," said Iowa State manager Cecil Wilson. "We were lucky to win this one. I don't think it matters how hard you throw, especially in the NCAA. If you leave a ball out over the plate to good College Baseball hitters, if they get a bead on you and you leave it over the middle, they're probably going to take a pretty good hack at it."

Stone has a .254 average and a .321 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 30 hits, 9 home runs and driven in 26 runs.
