Beech Mountain second baseman Jesús Cruz was sensational. He belted 2 home runs, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Chicago beat the Mountaineers, 5-4. Cruz was named the player of the game despite the loss. The win was Víctor Reyes's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Bret McJannett took the loss for Beech Mountain. With the loss, Beech Mountain falls to 2-3.

Edward Bartlett was the walk-off hero for Chicago. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Machine shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"We'll savor this win," Bartlett told the Chicago Citizen, "then get ready for the next game."
