In a tight contest at Mel Fields, the So Cal Bruins edged the Orlando Calrissian by the score of 4-3. So Cal left fielder José Antonio Santiago, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. Juan González got the win, improving to 12-7. He worked 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. Marty Burgess finished to wrap up his 28th save.
So Cal slugger Earl Wiggins had a big at-bat with two out in the top of the eighth. With a runner on 1st, he connected on a fastball from Mark Collins for a 2-run home run. His 41st home run of the season put So Cal in front, 4-3.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said So Cal skipper Jorge Rivera. "I can't complain."
The Bruins' win now puts them at 88-55.
