Maui starter Ronald Cotton put a stranglehold on the Beech Mountain offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Tropics to a 4-1 win. Cotton went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 10-10. Yong-taek Yi earned the save for Maui, his 4th of the year.

José Herrera wielded some clout for Maui. The right fielder had a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth for the Tropics. It put his team ahead, 3-1, and sent them on to victory. For the game, Herrera went 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice.

"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Herrera said.

The last-place Tropics raised their record to 55-89.
