Austin first baseman Pedro Guzmán had a good game, even if his team did not. The River Sharks dropped a 5-4 decision to Fresno at The Kallipolis. Guzmán went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Fresno reliever César Menéndez picked up the win, upping his record to 5-2. Jean Burrows was saddled with the loss. Valentín Reséndez closed the door for Fresno, picking up his 34th save of the year.
Jared Thompson provided some late-game heroics for Fresno. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit a run-scoring single. It came on a 0-1 fastball from Jean Burrows and propelled Fresno to a 5-4 lead.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Austin manager Will Shaw.
The losses continue to add up for Austin, which has now fallen 11 times in a row.
