Stars Even With Pikes After Home Win
|
The Springfield Stars and the Seattle Pikes will take the League Championship to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Stars beat the Pikes 5-3 at Kekambas Park to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Springfield right-hander Claudio Martínez was named player of the game in the win after he threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball.
It could have been a different outcome for Springfield, had it not been for Shane Hutchinson, the 26-year old second baseman . Hutchinson contributed a 2-run double in the bottom of the third inning to put Springfield up, 2-1.
"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Hutchinson said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."
Game 7 is set to be played on Saturday, October 28th, 2028 at Kekambas Park. Slated to start are Albert Lebel for Seattle and Claudio Martínez for Springfield.
