Gang Green Even With Bruins After Home Win
|
The Irvine Gang Green got a strong game from starter Mike Marrero, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Gang Green took the 3-2 win over the So Cal Bruins in Game 2 of the Divisional Round in a 11th inning walk-off today. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Marrero, who was named player of the game. Marrero threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which brought the Gang Green into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-7 series.
When he came to bat in the bottom of the 11th, Víctor Quiñones had a chance to end it. So Cal pitcher Kitahachi Okada had other ideas. But with two outs, Quiñones hit a walk-off run-scoring single. The Gang Green had the win.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Marrero told the Irvine Chronicle.
The next game is scheduled for Saturday, October 14th, 2028 at Jersey West at Staples Field. Slated to start are Mike Marrero for Irvine and Juan González for So Cal.
