Fans who came to Gateway Stadium watched the Austin River Sharks and the St. Louis Browns fight to the finish.

In a low-scoring game between Austin and St. Louis, pitcher Armando Pérez was excellent. The Austin right-hander was named the player of the game in Austin's 1-0 win. Austin currently is in last place in the Continental League Central Division at 24-56.

Pérez, who has sometimes raised the ire of coaches and teammates with his famously lackadaisical work ethic, turned in a spirited effort. The hurler struck out 6 in 8.1 innings and gave up no earned runs.

Pérez moves to 1-2 on the year with 19 strikeouts.

In comments to the Austin News, Pérez insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
