Stars Edge Houston in Pitching Duel
|
In a tight battle between the Springfield Stars and the Houston Marshals, pitcher José López was in the zone. The Springfield left-hander was named the player of the game in Springfield's 1-0 win. José Valdéz recorded his 18th save for Springfield. The losses continue to mount for Houston, which has now dropped 7 in a row.
Elliott Newell came through for Springfield in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Newell victimized Ron Scott with a solo home run. It was his 16th home run of the season and put Springfield on top, 1-0.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Tom Lucott.
