The Maui Tropics got a sterling performance from pitcher Júlio González, but the Marshals still prevailed, 5-4. González was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Edward Cadle finished to wrap up his 24th save. The second-place Marshals have won 8 consecutive games.
Had Greg Welch not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Welch hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Marshals.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Welch told the Houston Times.
