Nassau right-hander Chris Marshall made an effective start against the Birmingham Steeldogs at Nassau Grounds, leading his team to a 9-5 win. The third-place Steeldogs have lost 5 consecutive games.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Andrew Alvarado came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Birmingham pitcher Michel Dallaire, he hit a 2-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Nassau on top, 6-5.

"Anytime we get it going, it puts a smile on my face," said Alvarado.
